I recently brought up that I believe we have the ranks of Rocco and Eddie Scarpa wrong. Rocco's rank is never mentioned in Joe's Adventures, at some point a user added that he was a capo to his page. We currently list Eddie as the Underboss of the Falcone Crime Family, which is supported by the following two lines from the Mafia II Loading Quotes page.
- Carlo and his underboss Eddie Scarpa are two of the most dangerous men in Empire Bay.
- Falcone underboss Eddie Scarpa runs the day-to-day business of the restaurant, spending most of his time at the bar.
Now bear in mind, the loading quotes were pulled from the game files. Not all of them may even be scripted to be displayed in-game (Mafia II has a crap load of cut files still present in the program). Despite that, they only concern the main game, not the DLCs, and Eddie Scarpa wasn't introduced until 1951 (chapter 7), which is after Joe's Adventures took place.
I think there is quite a bit of circumstantial evidence to suggest that Eddie actually worked under Rocco in Joe's Adventures. At their first interaction in the ending cutscene of Supermarket, Rocco is seen yelling at Eddie and giving him several orders:
- Rocco yells at Eddie, dressing him down harshly for buying cheap pliers. Eddie's only reaction is to shrug his shoulders and roll his eyes.
- When first speaking with Joe, Rocco refers to Eddie and Tony Balls as his guys: "My guys, Eddie and Balls, they told me you done some good work for us." Eddie had no reaction to this statement.
- Rocco tells Joe that if he does good on a few jobs for him; "I'll have a discussion with that cock sucker Gurino for you".
- Earlier in Connection, Eddie says he will have "a talk with the fellas" about getting Joe a pass with Gurino and Clemente. By saying "fellas" (plural) he seems to be suggesting there is more than one person above him (Rocco and Falcone) to talk with. If he was underboss he should have only needed to talk to Falcone about it.
- After this, Rocco tells Joe to excuse him, placing his arm around Eddie's shoulders and says "Me and this shithead have some work to do." Eddie had no reaction to this statement either.
- Finally he takes Eddie back to the guy he was torturing and tells him "You're digging the damn hole." Again, Eddie had no reaction to this statement.
To me, all that signifies that Rocco was in charge. Eddie's behavior suggests he was used to taking orders from Rocco.
In the mission Cathouse, Rocco shoots Falcone but makes no attempt to shoot Eddie. Seeing Falcone go down, he walks off assuming he's dead and tells his guys to "finish them off".
- To me that signifies he only needed to take out Falcone to take over the family, meaning Eddie had to be under him.
- Also, when Joe walks into the cathouse he reports to Rocco, not Eddie.
Also, the order of the missions in Joe's Adventures goes from Tony Balls, Eddie Scarpa and then Rocco, as if Joe was moving up the chain of command in regard to who he got his assignments from.
Finally, the Frankie Potts file on Eddie (File:Frankie Potts Week 06-2.png) states he's a Falcone capo. The Story of Frankie Potts takes place in 1950, again one year before Eddie is introduced in the main game.
To sum this up, I believe Rocco was the Falcone underboss and Eddie was a capo, likely getting promoted to underboss after Rocco was killed. I think we should make the appropriate changes on their pages to reflect that.
