The Lost Heaven Police Department (LHPD) is a law enforcement organization in Mafia: Definitive Edition.
History[]
The Lost Heaven Police Department is responsible for law enforcement and investigation within the city of Lost Heaven.
Influence[]
The LHPD is inspired by the real-life Chicago Police Department serving Chicago.
Interaction[]
The game uses a system of 1 to 5 stars to indicate the gravity of the crime committed or the amount of police force pursuing the player. Losing the police will grant the player freedom from police until another crime is committed. With the "Regular" setting of police response, the cops will respond to crimes resulting in harm to citizens, and with the "Simulation" setting, this extends to driving offenses, like speeding, car collisions and running red lights. Citizens will phone the police if they witness a crime in progress, and if the citizens make a successful call, a police whistle sound effect will play, indicating that the player is now wanted by the police. The police will investigate the area for several minutes or until the player has been located.
Wanted Level[]
There are five levels of being wanted by the police, consisting of one through five stars, with a corresponding icon for each of them. Each wanted level icon has two states, clear and shaded. When shaded, the player is out of the police line of sight.
One Star[]
At one star the police will write a ticket, which is given for minor crimes. Tommy just needs to stop, get out and pay the fine. The player also has the option of refusing to pay, which will result in an automatic two star status.
A ticket is shown on the one star status icon.
Two Stars[]
At two stars the police will draw their weapons and attempt to arrest Tommy for larger crimes such as vehicle theft, murder, and refusing to stop and pay a fine. The police begin to pursue Tommy, attempting to ram his car. If caught, Tommy will get on the ground and be arrested if the player does nothing. There is also an option to resist arrest, which will result in an automatic three star status.
Handcuffs are shown on the two star status icon.
Three Stars[]
At three stars the police begin shooting on sight if Tommy has committed a crime for which deadly force is authorized. This includes committing multiple two-star crimes, assaulting an officer, and resisting arrest. The police will pursue with vigor, firing their weapons out their windows at him. They may also set up small roadblocks around the city. A police bike will accompany the police cruisers chasing Tommy at this wanted level. Continuously causing havoc may increase the wanted level to four stars.
A gun is shown on the three star status icon.
Four Stars[]
At four stars the police density increases, with officers carrying a variety of weapons, police cruisers carrying more officers, and detectives assisting the police in an unmarked vehicle. The roadblocks are also larger, with one occupied police cruiser attempting to stop Tommy. Continuously causing havoc may increase the wanted level to five stars.
A scope is shown on the four star status icon.
Five Stars[]
At five stars the police density further increases, with an increased amount of police and detective vehicles chasing Tommy.
A scope and skull are shown on the five star status icon.
