The Haitian Mob is a criminal organization in Mafia III.

History[]

Background[]

According to Jonathan Maguire, the Haitian Mob emerged with a wave of Haitian refugees fleeing the regime of François "Papa Doc" Duvalier in the late 1960s. Although most of the refugees were honest, hardworking men and women seeking a better life in New Bordeaux, some were hardened criminals who would eventually form the backbone of the Mob.

At first, the Haitians were little more than petty thieves, supporting themselves by robbing homes across Delray Hollow. However, it didn't take long for them to notice that a significant portion of the Hollow's residents were unhappy with the established Black Mob. The Haitians became influenced by ideals of black self-empowerment that painted the Mob and by extension their leader, Sammy Robinson, as weak and submissive tools of Sal Marcano and the Marcano family; this bought them plenty of supporters disillusioned with Sammy and eager to back an organization with the guts to stand up to the Marcanos.

Expansion[]

Operating out of an old salt mining town in Bayou Fantom, the Haitian Mob started going after Sammy's lottery racket in 1967. Sammy did his best to deal with the problems that resulted from the disruption of the lottery, but his half-hearted attitude whilst doing so only made him look even more spineless; most of his men chose to desert him or join up with the Haitians. Money became so tight that the Mob was soon three months behind on its kickbacks to the Marcano family.

However, Sammy did find one bright spot when his adopted son, Lincoln Clay, returned home from serving in the Vietnam War. The Haitians found out as well, and when Sammy announced that Lincoln would be assisting with the donation of free lunches at Warm Hearts Neighborhood Kitchen, a hit squad arrived with the intention of publicly assassinating him. Lincoln fought back and killed his would-be assassins, and Sammy accepted that he could no longer put off dealing with his enemies.

All Things Must Pass[]

With his brother Ellis backing him up, Lincoln snuck into the Haitian camp, where he found the Mob's apparent leader, Baka, already prepared for a retaliatory attack by Sammy. Baka was killed in the ensuing shootout, and Lincoln freed a young woman named Cassandra who claimed to have been abducted by the Haitians to serve as Baka's sex slave. With Haitian soldiers pouring in, Ellis arrived just in time to rescue Lincoln and drive him to safety.

Sammy then acceded to a plan by Sal to rob the Federal Reserve, assuming that by doing so he could settle his debts. The heist was a success, but Sal was quick to show his true colors by having Sammy and Ellis killed in their own bar alongside Danny Burke, and leaving Lincoln for dead as the building burned down around him. When Lincoln came to, he met with his old friend John Donovan and requested help finding allies to build an alliance against the Marcano family.

From Foes to Friends[]

Donovan's intelligence revealed that the Haitians were already planning attacks on the Dixie Mafia, who had stepped into the power vacuum left by Sammy's death and the dissolution of the Black Mob. Lincoln found an old warehouse where Haitian soldiers were stockpiling weapons for a raid on Perla's Nightclub out of disgust for how the Dixies were using it as a brothel to pimp out black women for paying white customers. He found a soldier willing to reveal that the Mob was now being run from the Pierced Heart, a local Vodou emporium. There, Lincoln was surprised to meet the true leader of the Haitian Mob: Cassandra.

Cassandra explained that Baka was not the real leader, but her trusted former underboss and bodyguard, who had willingly given his life so that the Mob would remain intact. When Lincoln asked for help dealing with Sal, Cassandra was skeptical as many of her followers had yet to forgive him for his previous efforts to wipe them out, and that she herself believed Lincoln did not understand why the Haitians had sought to get rid of Sammy. However, she ultimately agreed to lend him the Mob's support.

Lincoln put the brothel out of business and broke up the Dixies' lucrative heroin market. The survivors went into hiding with their boss Ritchie Doucet, but Lincoln hunted him down and hung him in revenge for his part in the deaths of his own family and the suffering the Mafia had inflicted on Delray Hollow. The Haitian Mob took full control of Delray Hollow and continued to assist Lincoln in his war against Sal; Lincoln returned the favor by helping the Haitians steal guns from their rivals.
