History[]
Chinatown is home to a predominantly Asian population. The first Chinese to arrive were traders and sailors in the mid 1700s, but the population explosion mainly occurred in the twentieth century when garment, laundry, and restaurant trades attracted thousands to emigrate from the Chinese mainland. It is a traditional neighborhood style Chinatown of American cities, having streets decorated with lanterns and flags, and all signs in Chinese.
Dominated by the Empire Bay Triads, the neighborhood takes on special significance in the chapters Sea Gift and Exit the Dragon.
Influence[]
Empire Bay's Chinatown is mainly based on New York City's Chinatown in Manhattan, while the archway takes influence from the Dragon Gate in San Francisco's Chinatown and the China Trade Gate in Boston's Chinatown.
