The Bolt V8 is considered a successor to the Bolt Model B, featuring more streamlined body designs common in the early years of the 1930s, such as leaning side profiles and shovel-shaped radiators (the only exception is the Coupe variant, which is more alike a Model B). The car's introduction into the game marks the start of the trend towards cars with gradually more curvy designs, away from the boxy design of cars rooted in the 1920s. The car is based on the 1933-1934 Ford Model B, more specifically the "Model 18" variants (also commonly known as the "Ford V-8") which feature Ford's Flathead V‑8 engine; only the Coupe is seemingly based on the 1932 model, being more similar to the 3-window 1932 Ford De Luxe Coupe.
A step down from the Bolt Ace and Model B, the V8 is available in only five body designs, including:
The car is further available in four body colors, including green, red, blue and grey (black).
All variants of the Bolt V8 share the exact same performance traits, as indicated below from the Carcyclopedia:
- Weight: 1170 kg
- Power: 65 HP (47.8 kW)
- Maximum speed: 76 mph (122 km/h)
- Engine: Eight cylinder
- Swept volume: 2622 ccm
- Gear box: Three speed
These traits translate to only minor improvements in the Bolt V8's performance from the Model B, as the car's top speed is only 18 MPH higher than its predecessor, although the V8's horsepower, being derived clearly from its V8 engine, is 50% more powerful than the Model B. Overall, the car is superior to the Schubert Six (which is heavier and slower than the V8), but remains under the ranks of the Falconer (which can still faster than the V8).
In other aspects, the car's cornering and braking is more stable, and its durability is also improved over the Model B.
In the game's storyline, the car is first featured in the mission A Trip to the Country (set in 1933), when Bolt V8s begin to spawn in traffic, and Ralph teaches the player how to steal a Bolt V8 Roadster, allowing the player to drive it to a meeting.
The car becomes unavailable as a traffic vehicle starting Election Campaign.
