Lincoln Clay: “Vito says you can help me get this bread of mine to a safe place.”
Betty Johnson: “Sure can, honey. Any friend of Vito's is a friend of mine. Be there lickety-split.”
Lincoln calls Betty.

Betty Johnson is a supporting character in Mafia III.

History[]

Background[]

Born to an Italian mother and a black father, Betty Johnson was running an unlicensed savings-and-loan out of her basement for the benefit of poor River Row families when a gang of men employed by Vito Scaletta tried to extort her. Johnson personally sent them packing with a double-barrel shotgun, but when Vito himself came by, he was impressed by the efficiency of her operation, and he asked her to serve as the informal consigliere of the Italian Gang. Given that Johnson was both female and not of pure Italian blood, his enemies would never suspect her of managing the financial affairs of his rackets.

Initially, Johnson wasn't too keen on entering into the service of the Mafia, but took the offer when Vito also agreed to let her use some of his illicit income for charitable purposes and to take care of her neighbors. Since then, Johnson has kept the Italian Gang's accounts in perfect order, ensuring that Vito always has a steady supply of cash on hand whenever he needs it. She soon extends the same service to his allies, such as Lincoln Clay.

Current Operations[]

Johnson will provide Lincoln Clay with the Consigliere perk after Lincoln rescues Vito in "Work the Man Who Bleeds". When the perk is activated, Johnson will arrive wherever Lincoln is and transfer any sum of money he wants into his personal bank. With upgrades, Johnson will be able to give Lincoln the location of enemies and valuable items to loot, and even pick up kickbacks from his associates in his stead and transfer them directly into Lincoln's bank.

Upgrades[]

  • Locate enemies and collect kickbacks.

Trivia[]

  • When called, she often refers to Lincoln as "Cher", a Louisiana Creole term meaning "darling," "sweetie", or "honey" that's derived from the French "chéri." This could indicate that Johnson's paternal side is of black Louisiana creole descent.
  • Given that she meets the requirements to be a high ranking member of the Scaletta Crime Family, it is probable that Betty is half Italian, having an Italian mother and a black father. Coincidentally, this would mean that she has a similar mixed-race background to Lincoln Clay.
