Antonio Scaletta is a minor character in Mafia II.

History[]

Life in Sicily[]

Antonio was born in Sicily and married Maria Scaletta in the rural village of San Martino. The couple had two children: a daughter named Francesca, born in 1921, and a son named Vito, born in 1925.

Life in Empire Bay[]

While his children were still young, Antonio moved his family to America in the hope of escaping the poverty they had suffered in Sicily. However, even in their new home in Hunters Point, a better life evaded them, and years of hardship followed as they struggled to make ends meet in a strange country. Vito later recalled that his father squandered much of his income on alcohol.

Death and Debt[]

In 1943, Antonio died while Vito was serving in WWII. Francesca and Maria eventually discovered that he had borrowed $2,000 from loan shark Bruno Levine to cover expenses until he found a better job than his current occupation as a dock worker for crooked union boss Derek Pappalardo. Vito later discovered that Derek was responsible for his father's death, having ordered Steve Coyne to drown him so it would look like he had fallen into the water drunk. Vito, who had been working for Pappalardo, turned on him and Steve and gunned them both down.

Trivia[]

  • It is not clear why Antonio was murdered. Given his lack of money, he may have been killed for refusing to pay Derek his union "dues".
  • Vito inherits most of his father's features as they both look alike, which several older dockworkers comment on.
  • His name was probably inspired by the father of Don Corleone who appears in The Godfather Part II as they are both called Antonio and have sons named Vito who avenge their murders at the hands of mobsters by killing those same mobsters after falling into a life of crime.
