Aldridge's Mercenaries are a military organization in the Mafia III DLC Stones Unturned.

They are a private mercenary company answering to Connor Aldridge and whoever else Aldridge assigns to be their paymasters for missions they undertake, such as the NVA and the Viet Cong.

History[]

Aldridge's mercenaries are made up of men from multiple nationalities, with military training and backgrounds. They were hired by Connor Aldridge to help find and secure The Nuke, which has been lost on an Unknown Island off the coast of Cuba since the cargo plane carrying it crashed there. Their plan is to sell it to a general in the North Vietnamese Army who is paying top dollar for the nuclear warhead. Aldridge states at one point that they formed beginning sometime in 1963 after John Donovan ruined Aldridge's deal with Trong, which exposed Aldridge and his treacherous plans, along with getting many of his communist contacts killed. Aldridge went on the run from US forces in war torn Southeast Asia and their pro-Saigon allies in the region after this event took place.

The mercenaries begin their mission to locate and secure the nuke with armed offensives on three different locations across New Bordeaux. First, they massacre a birthday party at a Cuban restaurant called Villa Del Mar in the French Ward, leaving no survivors except for one, and getting the location of a CIA safehouse from an old distillery of a Cuban CIA asset named Balmana after Aldridge tortures and kills him. Next, the battalion launches an all-out assault on a CIA safe house in the bayou codenamed Pedro Pan, killing or capturing every CIA agent they come across and temporarily taking over the facility.

Lincoln Clay and John Donovan clear them out and attempt to corner Connor Aldridge, before he escapes with vital information as more of his mercenaries storm the CIA safe house to ambush them. After killing the arriving battalion of mercenaries sent to kill them, Lincoln and Donovan pick up a keycard from a dead CIA agent and enter the office that Aldridge raided and escaped through. Lincoln and Donovan quickly realize that another man, Reuben Paez, who was a part of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces flight crew who defected to the US, is still at large, working at the Boicherot's department store in Frisco Fields, and that he will be killed by the mercs if the two don't rush over to the upscale store and rescue Paez.

Clay and Donovan rush to Boicherot's and rendezvous with Paez, just before another battalion of the mercenaries ambush and attempt to kill Paez and the other two men, Paez being shot and injured in the process. The two fight through more of the mercenaries on the road in Frisco Fields and Downtown and rescue Paez from them, who has his bullet wound treated by Robert Marshall at his compound in the Bayou before he reveals the location of the Nuke at the Unknown Island in Mexico being occupied by the Mercenaries. He reveals the coordinates for a crashed military cargo plane in the jungle on the island that was carrying the nuke, when they were originally planning to return it to the Soviet Spetsnaz in an airfield near Mexico City. However, right before Lincoln and Donovan embark to the island by boat to retrieve the nuke and kill Aldridge and the rest of his mercenaries, Aldridge's mercenaries retrieve the nuke from the wrecked plane and bring it into an unfinished Soviet military base which contains a missile silo and a submarine bay, that the mercenaries are now using as their primary base of operations.

The plans of Aldridge and his mercenary company ultimately fail when John Donovan infiltrates and assaults the island and later the Soviet Navy base, with Lincoln Clay backing him up as a clandestine CIA asset. Donovan executes Aldridge with a single gunshot to the forehead on board a submarine after Aldridge was critically injured in combat by Clay. Afterwards, Clay and Donovan take the nuke away in a truck, and fight through a final wave of the remaining mercenaries, before Donovan has a CIA operative and pilot named Gary take the nuke away in a container being carried away in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter. The mercenary company is presumably wiped out after this series of events, whatever is left of them outside of the Unknown Island likely crumbling and disbanding without any centralized leadership remaining.

Trivia[]

  • Due to their military background, they rank among the toughest enemies in the game. Another difficult factor is that they best know how to take cover and do not hip fire their weapons during combat. They also fire their weapons from cover without exposing themselves far more often than enemies from other factions.
  • Their recruits come from all over the world, being former soldiers from either various militaries or different rebel groups and terrorist organizations. Judging from their distinctive accents, slang from English, creole and other languages they use, and physical features among the mercenaries you fight, they appear to range from being Irish, South African, Australian, Latin American, Haitian, Barbadian, Filipino, to Eastern European. Some may even be former American military men.
  • Given how quickly they were able to deploy in massive numbers in and around New Bordeaux in three different areas far apart from each other, from the French Ward, the Bayou, to Frisco Fields, it is very likely that the mercenaries have a pre-existing formidable hidden presence in the Southeastern United States.
