The .38 SMG is a weapon in Mafia II.
Description[]
The .38 SMG is a submachine gun issued to the Italian Army. Such weapons were captured in enormous quantities by Allied troops during the invasion of Italy.
Specifications[]
The weapon has a magazine capacity of 30 rounds and the player can carry an additional 3 magazines for a total of 120 rounds. It has a fully automatic rate of fire with a minimal amount of recoil, making it a very accurate weapon. It occupies a slot in the top of the weapons HUD along with other automatic weapons.

Mafia II[]
- It's first seen in The Old Country, where the player can pick one up inside the San Celeste Town Hall.
- They become available for sale at Harry's Gun Shop in Exit the Dragon.
DLCs[]
- In The Betrayal of Jimmy, Jimmy's Vendetta, and Joe's Adventures, they're available for purchase at Harry's Gun Shop from the beginning.
Real World[]
The .38 SMG is based on the Beretta Model 38.

- Despite the in-game name of the weapon, it does not fire .38 caliber ammunition. The real life counterpart of this gun, the Beretta Model 38, is chambered in 9x19mm Parabellum.
- It is the only submachine gun in the game where the player shoulders the weapon and uses the sights.
